Understanding the Dental Assistant Certification Test

You have completed the dental assistant training and now it is time to take a dental assistant certification test. Your palms are sweating and your knees are shaking. What if the answers are all wrong and you have failed the exam. Luckily for you this was only a nightmare. Sure, it was not funny but you have to admit that thoughts like these are often conjured up when it comes to taking important exams. This is especially true if it means the difference between having a career and going back to a minimum wage job.

The dental assistant certification test is different depending on what type of assistant you have chosen to be. There are different tests for different career paths. There are three different personal assistants jobs that you can elect to pursue. These careers include a certified dental assistant, a certified orthodontic assistant, and a certified dental practice management administrator.

The certified dental assistant test has three components that make up the exam. The first is the general chair side exam. This exam consists of 120 questions and will cover the basics. The second is the infection control exam and consists of 100 multiple choice questions. It is also part of the orthodontic assistant exam. The third component is the radiation health and safety exam. It also has 100 multiple choice questions.

The orthodontic assistant test has 210 multiple choice questions that cover the course of the program. The practice management administrator test focuses more on the front office than it does on the healthcare. It will deal with book keeping, records, accounting and receptionist duties. The training for this program will cover computer classes as well as some of the typical anatomy and physiology classes.

The dental assistant certification test can be intimidating if you did not adequately prepare or did not do well at the dental assistant school. However, if you studied and passed the exam, then you will no doubt do well in your dental assistant job. The test is given three times a year in February, June and October. You must apply before you take the exam and the exams are now given in both computer and written formats.
