Dentistry careers are in abundance. But what do you get when you have too many vacant positions and not enough qualified people to fill those vacant spots? You get a very bad case of supply not meeting demand. That is the case that is occurring in the dentistry field. There are far more patients than there are dentists, dental assistants or other dental health care professionals. One thing that many dentists are doing to offset this trend is to offer a higher dental assistant salary.
Some of the possible jobs that you can find the in the dentistry field include a certified dental assistant, surgical technologists, dental hygienists, a college dental assistant who helps instructors teach other would-be medical technicians or you could be (gasp) a dentist. Any one of those careers could be a good fit for you and you would definitely be involved in one of the health care careers that are in such high demand in today's job market.
For rewarding dentistry careers, perhaps, other than going to school to be a dentist, you should consider one of the dental assistant programs, as the courses take only a short amount of time to complete. If school is just not in your foreseeable future, then you may want to consider on the job training. Many employers will hire you and then train you on the job which allows them to oversee your training to their specifications.
If you want a more specialized field, then you may want to consider being an orthodontic assistant or a working in the field of cosmetic dentistry. With all the make-over shows on television there has been a wide appeal for people to improve the overall look of their smile through cosmetic dentistry. You may also be able to improve your own smile with that new paycheck you will be drawing in by being a certified medical technician to a cosmetic dentist.
This is a great time to find a place in the health care field. Dentistry careers are in serious need of fresh faces and you can be part of this rising trend of new people entering the profession.
